2015 Creative Design Contest
POSTECH Department of Mechanical Engineering will hold the 3rd Creative Design Contest to help undergraduate students cultivate creative thinking, develop various mechanical designs and new theories, and improve academic and problem-solving capabilities. This contest will offer students a good opportunity to nurture their creativity in problem-solving and unlock their potential. We invite all students to this contest.
1. Competition Areas : All areas of natural science and engineering

• Creative design or idea
• New theory on how to improve creativity or critical thinking
(Examples : appropriate technology, ideas that improve the quality of our daily life, any works that use renewable energy, Etc. )
• Any idea that was thought up during the course may be turned in for

• Grand prize (1 team or person) : KRW 3 million
• Gold prize (1 team or person) : KRW 2 million
• Silver prize (2 teams or persons) : KRW 1 million each
• Bronze prize (4 teams or persons) : KRW 500 thousands each
• Creative scientist award will be rewarded to all teams that get through the preliminaries.
• The contest will subsidize a portion of the manufacturing fee for each team.
4. Evaluation Criteria
• How is your approach different from the conventional way?
• What technical difficulty do you overcome?
• What scientific contradiction do you solve?
• How useful is your idea?
• Is it feasible?

– Team members and the descriptions of their responsibility
– Analysis from an engineering perspective and the way to put the idea into
practice
– Market Research
– Research on patents related to your idea

4) Judges : Professors of POSTECH Department of Mechanical Engineering
D. Finals
1) Date : During the month of October (To be announced)
2) Evaluation will be based on presentation (20 minutes including 5 minutes of Q&A)

4) Judges : POSTECH professors, POSCO executives and staff members,
and patent attorneys
