[Professors Heedeuk Shin and Byeong-Joo Lee  received ministerial commendations]

노용영 교수팀 뷰페이지(en)Professor Yong-Young Noh from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Professor Sei Kwang Hahn from the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) were awarded the Order of Science and Technology Merit and the Science and Technology Medal at the “2024 Science and ICT Day” ceremony held on the April 22.

The Ministry of Science and ICT organized an awards ceremony at the Gwacheon National Science Museum to recognize advancements in science, ICT, and national research and development efforts. In total, 21 individuals received awards in the national research and development sector including 2 orders, 5 medals, 6 presidential citations, and 8 prime ministerial citations (including 1 organization).

Professor Yong-Young Noh, recipient of the Order of Science and Technology Merit, unveiled to the academic world the pioneering discovery of the world’s first metal halide perovskite p-type semiconductor and high-performance transistor utilizing tin (Sn). This research garnered recognition as one of the foremost 100 national research and development achievements in the realm of electronic information in 2023 with Professor Noh receiving well-deserved accolades. Notably, this field ranks among the top 10 challenging technologies for future materials in semiconductors, as designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT. Academics anticipate that Professor Noh’s remarkable contributions will spearhead further innovation and advancement in the foreseeable future.

Professor Sei Kwang Hahn was recognized with the Medal of Science and Technology Honor for his groundbreaking work in advancing healthcare. His development of state-of-the-art smart contact lenses and wearable devices capable of simultaneous diagnosis and treatment has significantly contributed to the field. Professor Hahn’s research, which integrates medical sensors for eye diseases and diabetes with wireless communication devices, has garnered praise for enhancing patient convenience. Moreover, it was honored as one of the top 100 Convergence Achievements in the National Research and Development Excellence Awards of 2023. Additionally, Professor Hahn, an author of over 180 papers in international journals, was appointed as a deputy editor-in-chief of “Biomaterials”, a journal in the biomaterials field, in 2023.

Furthermore, Heedeuk Shin from the Department of Physics and Byeong-Joo Lee from the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at POSTECH were awarded the Ministerial Commendation for Excellence in R&D and 100 Meritorious Achievements and the Ministerial Commendation for Protection of Researchers’ Rights and Interests respectively.
